HSC is now CFPA!
You may have noticed some changes at Hollywood Senior Center…starting with our new logo and name—The Community for Positive Aging.
Why all the changes?
Everyone knows Hollywood Senior Center. We’ve been around for 50 years now! Our name was always easy to remember because it described both our location—NE Portland’s Hollywood District—and what we were about—serving seniors. In the last few years, Hollywood Senior Center began expanding services and reaching out beyond the Hollywood neighborhood to provide programs for Portlanders living in affordable housing properties in buildings throughout the city. Incorporating the work formerly done by an organization called The Giving Tree, we began by assisting isolated seniors and low-income adults in gaining access to services during the pandemic.
Now known as The Community for Positive Aging (CFPA), our organization continues to grow and evolve. We recently launched a Community Health Program to provide more assistance to community members who cannot easily get to Hollywood Senior Center for services. The program will help people access vaccines, navigate health systems, and prepare for emergencies.Though our Center is still located in the Hollywood district, our mission has expanded. Our work is now centered not on a specific place, but on a vision and ideal—that everyone should have access to the services they need to age in place with joy, dignity, and community support.
Our new logo, made from colorful interlocking circles, represents the idea that we serve many different communities. The different colors also represent all the different groups that make up our community—volunteers, community partners, staff and participants—who together share this vision and commitment to creating both a center, and many spaces throughout our diverse community where seniors and people of all ages can find the re-sources and the connections needed to thrive.
Our new name, like our new logo, conveys our vision and ideals—what we are aspiring to do and to become. We hope you will also be inspired and join us in the work.
