Who We Are

The Community for Positive Aging is a 501c3 not-for-profit, age-positive hub that offers a multitude of no-cost donation based services, a devoted team enhanced by peer-run programs, and resources that empower you to learn, connect, and grow. While our services are designed with attention, compassion, and respect for those age 55 and older, we believe that younger and older generations, alike, deserve experiences that reflect positive aging. We’ve created a place where everyone, regardless of who they are, feels part of this community.

Our Name: Why
‘The Community For Positive Aging’?

Community

For us, ‘community’ is connection. It means coming together to share, exchange, support, and engage with one another, united in collective understanding and acknowledgment of each other, undefined by physical location.

Positive Aging

As we grow in age, we gain skills, experience, and wisdom. Aging is an asset and in fact (good news!), research shows that people get happier as they age. We have more to contribute to society as we get older, and we all deserve to age positively—with joy, dignity, community, and support.

We are a Community for all.

As we grow in age, we gain skills, Aging is something we all have in common. No matter who you are or how old you are, you are aging. We all are, and here, all belong. We are neighbors in the process of growing older who support each other on our individual journeys, as different and diverse as they may be. We strive to be a safe and accessible organization for all, and we welcome community members of all ages, genders, abilities, ethnicities, sexual identities, and religions.

Our mission is to foster a healthier, more inclusive and connected Portland for adults 55+ through educational and recreational programming, support services, and care.

We are dedicated to creating safe spaces and opportunities for older and low-income community members to thrive. We are committed to raising public awareness, transcending the stigmas associated with aging, and moving toward a more intergenerational future together.

Our vision is a fully intergenerational, age-positive, age-inclusive future in which older adults are seen and celebrated, invited, included, and connected in community.

We believe…

  • In the right of every individual to self-determination.

  • In the inherent worth of each human being to reach their fullest potential. In the power of community and supportive relationships.

  • That dignity is a human right.

  • That every person should have opportunities and support that meets their unique needs and goals.

  • In the intrinsic value of every person, in honoring our differences, acting with respect, and bringing cultural humility to our work.

  • That the success of our organization is measured by its teamwork, partnerships, and the well-being of our elders.

  • In confronting injustice and seeking to address structural racism, inequity, and power imbalances.
