Neighborhood Gleaners creates access to healthy  fruits and vegetables for hundreds of low income seniors in the community.

Neighborhood Gleaners is a volunteer-run program of the Hollywood Senior Center. We collect food that would otherwise go to waste from the Hollywood Farmers Market and redistribute it to low-income seniors in the community.

Founded in 2011, Neighborhood Gleaners is a volunteer-run program of the Hollywood Senior Center. Volunteers gather overflow produce from the Hollywood Farmers Market, Portland Fruit Tree project and local farms and hand deliver fresh produce to clients who participate in the program.  Each week, volunteers help put together bags of food to deliver to residents. Around the holidays, we provide Thanksgiving meals.

Most people can expect a delivery once or twice a month.

Interested in registering for our program?

Email gleaners@communityfpa.org or call 503-288-8303.

Neighborhood Gleaners volunteers will make contact on the Wednesday or Thursday prior, if you are scheduled to receive a delivery that Saturday.

Our Impact & Contributors

In 2023, 956 households received about 13,000 pounds of food from our Neighborhood Gleaners.

These are seniors who live in the greater Portland Metropolitan area (Beaverton to Troutdale to Milwaukee). We focus mostly on case-managed seniors, as those who have already been identified as the most vulnerable through Aging & Disability services. Volunteers make home delivery with gleaned fresh vegetables and fruits thanks to the generosity of the Hollywood Farmers Market, Kindness Farms, Portland Fruit Tree Project and local gardens.

Thank you so much, this is a big kindness. It’s hard to find free fresh food, and hard to afford it. You are the space between a rock and a hard place.
